Every week we introduce one member of our team to you. This week: Bruno. He is originally from Brazil and works as a software engineer at our company builder Liquid Labs. His tasks include building and maintaining solutions at OrderThis, one of our IoT-projects, and to make sure that the infrastructure is running properly.
Who are you?
I am Bruno Bandeira de Azevedo, and I come from São Paulo, Brazil. I graduated as a Computer Engineer from Universidade de São Paulo, with an exchange in the University of Helsinki. I have been playing around with computers all my life, till I made a profession out of it. My hobbies would be studying (all sorts of new things), reading and playing some old videogames.
What are you doing here?
Working, studying German and enjoying all that this beautiful city has to offer.
How did you end up here?
I attended a recruiting event where I met Jan, the Head of Product for OrderThis. After a brief talk we decided to meet for a more proper interview and the rest is history.
What do you do when you're not working?
I study new technologies, new realms of knowledge that interest me, watch movies, go out to know the city, play old (and some new) video games when time permits.
What do you still want to do in your life?
Travel whenever possible.
What exactly are your tasks as a Software Engineer?
My main task is to build and maintain solutions at OrderThis, make sure our infrastructure is running at proper capacity, is secure, resilient and properly monitored.
What is the best part of your work as a Software Engineer?
Building new solutions and automate work as much as possible.
What would you like to do without in your work as a Software Engineer?
Excessively verbose languages (looking at you Java), having to work with large, ancient and arcane codebases with more magic than logic.
Why do you do what you do?
Building things is fun, solving problems is fun. The cool thing about being an engineer is that you have all these tools available to solve problems, and 1000 ways to solve it.
What should one bring along to work as Software Engineer?
Eagerness to build new things, learn, some creativity, excitement and a healthy dose of logic.
